We’re looking for a highly motivated Head of Software Engineering to join one of the leading pharmacy and healthcare software solutions companies in the UK. You’ll join their award winning, innovative R&D team in a pivotal role driving software development and delivery against an exciting healthcare product portfolio

About the role
This is a really exciting and challenging role leading and guiding the team as they actively rebuild a heritage technology stack from the inside out, whilst customers continue to use the business critical solution. They’ll deliver incremental value, ensuring customers can seamlessly use the existing solutions whilst benefiting from the new value adding features.

  • Ownership for implementing engineering strategy and operations across the department, with a focus on improving efficiency, and engineering excellence.
  • Ensure that the right people, processes, and checks are in place to deliver on the product vision.
  • Mentor and coach the development team.
  • Ensure technical governance to the architectural strategy across eight squads.
  • Development of the technical and architectural roadmaps.

What they’re looking for
The person:
You are someone who can bring a fresh perspective into the department, be a technical evangelist and help this growing team to reach new heights.  You’ll be a Head of Development, Development Team Lead, Software Development Manager, or a strong Technical Lead, with excellent team leadership and management skills and are able to demonstrate a strong technical, and desirably an architectural, background within Software Engineering. You have:

  • An aptitude and interest in seeking out and applying new technologies.
  • An enthusiastic and inspirational approach to software development.
  • A keenness to challenge, innovate and champion new ideas.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Technical areas of expertise:

  • C#/.NET Core Microservices
  • Design Patterns, GoF, MVC, MVVM
  • Web Services, REST, XML, JSON
  • Databases – PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, MongoDB
  • Understanding of front-end SPAs in React Typescript/JavaScript
  • Secure programming practises, a general understanding of Web security
  • Understanding of web standards and architecture

Prior experience of Apache Kafka, real time streaming and event streaming architectures, Docker/Kubernetes, the Atlassian toolset (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, Git, BitBucket) would be hugely beneficial in the role.

Other useful information
This is a permanent, full-time position.
Location: It’s a hybrid working role. The successful candidate will be based in the North West/North, or in a commutable distance to be able to regularly spend time with the team in the Leyland HQ.
