Knowledge Manager / Technical Writer (hybrid office/home working, Lancashire) - North West

£40,000 to £60,000 plus hybrid working and great benefits - Technical Author

We’re looking for an experienced Technical Writer/Knowledge Manager to join a sector leading Lancashire based EDI tech-company. This hybrid home/office working role (their brand new office is based right next to Buckshaw Parkway train station in Chorley) will see you working closely with the senior Technical Writer.

You'll be writing and editing technical documentation for internal and external audiences, creating visual instructions, workflows, technical changes, governance and user training documentation for customers and new people joining the business.

The role has two key focuses covering Technical Writing and Knowledge Management:

  1. Producing client orientated technical documentation including user manuals, on-boarding etc
  2. Producing knowledge management and documentation for internal audiences which will accelerate knowledge transfer across the business for existing employees, and help new people in the business grasp the technology and processes easily which will help to get them up to speed quicker during their induction and early career

  • Writing and editing technical documentation in various formats, including: Interactive tutorials content for an internal audience; FAQs; Knowledge based articles; User manuals; Process flows; Product descriptions
  • Collaborate with teams and stakeholders across the business to collect, understand and then package important knowledge in high-quality documentation
  • Develop your product knowledge to be able to write accurate and authoritative technical documentation
  • Leverage your product knowledge to answer challenging product/platform related queries from an internal Audience

What are they looking for?

Strong commercial experience as a Knowledge Manager /Technical Writer, possibly with a Business Analyst background

  • Proven experience writing high-quality technical documentation for internal and external audiences, a strong understanding of core IT concepts and terminology and ideally some ERP sector experience.
  • Someone self-motivated with the ability to adapt quickly and learn independently. With a natural interest in technology and a curiosity to understand the inner-workings on complex systems.
  • A genuine enthusiasm and eagerness to understand complex topics and then clearly describe those topics for others. Great to be around, with a can-do attitude and a hunger to experiment with new technologies.
  • An understanding of content strategy and information architecture principles
  • Strong visual communication skills, using diagramming and charting tools to their full potential

What would make you perfect?

  • Familiarity with docs-as-code tools and workflows (such as working with Git, writing in Markdown and using Dev-oriented tools such as IDEs and Bash)
  • Experience working with EDI, with Git and version control best practices
